Historians have said that Halloween originated from the Ancient Celtic pagan holiday Samhain, which marked the last night of the year. They believed that on this day the souls of the dead were allowed access into the “land of the dead along with allowing gnomes, fairies and various other mythical creatures’ access to the world of the living.
The name Halloween is derived from “All Hallows Eve,” or the night preceding “All Saint’s (Hallows’) Day after the holiday was co opted by the Christian church.” Catholic bishops in the UK are reminding trick or treaters of this relationship with the Holy Day. They’re backing an initiative called “Night of Light,” which encourages Christians to place a light in their window on Halloween to give witness that they are followers of Jesus Christ. The “Night of Light” is the inspiration of Damian Stayne, who says it is meant to “reclaim Halloween as a joyful Christian celebration.”
HOLY SHIT! SO Catholic Bishops are reminding you that they stole a Pagan holiday and decided to make up their own holy day to mask the true meaning and focus the masses on Christianity, so god forbid you should celebrate it the way it was meant to be celebrated. How bout this…all you little buggers in the UK put on your costumes Trick r’ Treat like crazy and leave the candle snuffed as it is a fire hazard unless of course its inside a devilish Jack O Lantern.
The Hundred Year Starship:
The Nasa mission that will take astronauts to Mars and leave them there forever
By Niall Firth
Nasa is planning an audacious mission to send a manned spacecraft on a one-way trip to permanently settle on other planets. The ambitious idea is known as the Hundred Years Starship and would send astronauts to colonise planets like Mars, knowing they could never come home. NASA Ames Director Pete Worden revealed that one of NASA’s main research centres, Ames Research Centre, has received £1million funding to start work on the project.
The research team has also received an additional $100,000 from Nasa.
‘You heard it here,” Worden said at ‘Long Conversation,’ an event in San Francisco. ‘We also hope to inveigle some billionaires to form a Hundred Year Starship fund.’ ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Believe and I will tell you everything while telling you nothing. The name be Fiction but my own raw truth always comes through. I went to college for years – never finding my dream. I am a jack of all trades, master of nothing and am just now appreciating it. I am left handed. I love love love to travel and I spend a lot of time in Hawaii. I love roses, coffee and art of all sorts. I love sweet nothings whispered in my ear and hopeless romance. Absolutely hopeless. I used to think models were vain losers. I still think that. I think everyone should get involved and support their community’s homeless population. I am a health fanatic. I live in my own world because American societal norms freak me out. Especially organized religion and soccer moms. I can’t stand liars. I see it as unecessary. In the end, you only hurt yourself. The truth will always set you free. I do not fear death yet am terrified of tornados. I am a non practicing buddhist yet forever watching my karma. I do not believe in permanence. Life is an evolving process. I am at my best when writing and performing. Life is short. Live it and love it before you leave it.
