SSX video games have been the epitome of Awesome snowboarding fantasy since the original PlayStation. Each game built upon the previous incarnation until SSX on Tour which ditched almost everything that made SSX great. Electronica was tossed in favor of teen satisfying “screamo”, you were allowed to ski instead of snowboard, and the goal became to acquire as much fame as possible on the pro circuit , and the menus were littered with shoddy notebook style animations….yay adolescents boo snowboarding.
This Failure coming off of the tremendous SSX 3 yielded only one next gen game: SSX blur on the wii (which was really just rehashed levels from On Tour and SSX 3) until now. So finally after a number of years assuming Shawn White Snowboarding was going to be the only game in town, (no pun intended) SSX was finally released…and it is GREAT!
Developers really went back and did their homework including everything that makes an SSX game great. For the reboot they stripped everything they added to “On tour” and improved upon the core qualities. The Graphics are beautiful and the mountains tracks are stunning, The fully electronic and mixed soundtrack fits SSX like a glove, and even all the characters you know and love are revamped and back for more. Your uber tricks are once again accompanied by a remix of Run DMC’s Tricky and the levels are filled with crazy rails and dangerous terrain.
