The Crazies is a remake of the 1973 George A. Romero movie of the same name. A story about a Biological weapon released upon a small town that results in brutal insanity. A small town man, his wife and a few friends do their best to survive as the inhabitants of the town rapidly become inhuman monsters. The military complicates things and begin shooting people on site to contain the virus until the town can be firebombed out of existence. Sort of like, The Happening meets Outbreak meets 28 days later.
Just a note for all those youngsters out there who thought Danny Boyle re-imagined zombies with the 28 days later formula, your wrong. Boyle stole the idea for an insane rage infection from Romero, he did an excellent Job with it, but it was still Romero first all the way.
As far as the horror reboot craze goes this movie looks like it has a lot of promise. The original Crazies is farely dated and actually could use the update. From what I can see of the preview it looks to follow the original story line pretty closely, and its very obvious where the ideas for movies like 28 Days later , The Happening and even the new Dawn of the Dead come from. Lets hope that they try to convey the same duality as Romero’s films in this remake, so it has some sort of social relevance and it doesn’t end up just another “Zombie” movie.

So, how’s that bayonet working out for ya, Jon? :p
