Well as I predicted over a year ago C2E2 came to town and sounded the death knell of Wizard World Chicago. Staged at McCormick place in downtown Chicago, the Convention was spacious, filled with natural light and immaculately organized. There were plenty of food vendors at decent prices, and everything was clearly marked. A big bonus here was (as opposed to Wizard World) C2E2 had all the major comic companies hocking their wares with the big grandiose booths that comic fans have come to expect. (more…)

This week is Dubbed the week of #2! Three great follow ups and one final in a story arch, bring us one of the best Comic weeks in a long time. Hopefully you’ve picked up the books I suggested in the previous weeks because (next to the walking dead) the books listed here today are the best comics being written today. So if you havn’t picked up the first issues to these follow ups  find em and then pick these up too.

The Waking #2

From the writer of Zenescope’s smash hit Wonderland trilogy, and Image Comics THE GIFT comes Raven Gregory’s newest tale of horror. The investigation continues as two bodies go missing from the morgue in search of those responsible for their deaths. Meanwhile, Jonathan Raine struggles to keep his little girl imprisoned or lose her forever.  MATURE THEMES (more…)

The Waking #1

In the big city, four police detectives investigating two routine murders discover that the victims of these crimes are coming back from the dead in search of those responsible for snuffing out their lives. Now the detectives are in a race against time to find the source of the recent “waking’s” and will be torn between doing their jobs or allowing the victims to find their own brand of bloody justice. Meanwhile, a father with an incredible ability must choose between avenging his daughter’s death or losing her forever. Check out what is sure to be one of the hottest freshest new takes on the zombie mythos in 2010. (more…)

Today was a rather light day, could quite possibly be considered a bi-week as far as new comics go in my opinion. Sadly there are no DC, Image or Dark Horse selections I felt worthy of buyin today so you only get some Marvel Drivel. Blackest Night Wonder Woman #3 came out today, but im just not that interested in that Amazon, even now that shes a star sapphire in the lantern Universe (Can you hear the Nerd just oozing out of my fingertips…I sure can). Not much to show you but here’s what I picked up today:

Ultimate X #1: Wolverine is dead. Captain America is a fugitive. The Fantastic Four disbanded. Lives have been destroyed and nothing can ever be the same is there any hope left? It all begins with a search for a brand new character whose identity will leave jaws on the floor and change the Ultimate Universe forever. (more…)

Walking Dead #1 Price Jump

DAMN IT! I have almost every issue of the Walking Dead comic book series (yes we’ve established I’m a big nerd), and I’ve been putting off buying issue #1 for a couple months now. Bills just seem to take precedent over hobbies after the age of 30, what can I say.

Anyways the fantastic news of the Walking Dead Series going into production on AMC this week has all the fans a twitter. In the afterglow of this wonderful news I suddenly remembered that I planned to purchase my coveted book before this announcement to avoid the rise in demand and inevitable price jump. So I went to the all powerful Google and looked up my purchase, “How high could the price have jumped?” I asked myself. (more…)

2009′s Top 10 Comics

Well another year Has come and gone, and as our economy and country continues its steady decline. In response i  i do what Americans do best…..concentrate on the moronic minutia of entertainment culture instead and create my top ten lists of 2009.

Comics

1.Arkham Reborn (DC)- its only a three shot but it definitely had the potential to be the best book out there. The Follow up to the Arkham Asylum one shot, that saw the destruction of the asylum and the introduction of some new crazies into Dr Jeremiah Arkham’s menagerie.  In Reborn we see Jeremiah  attempt to rebuild and maintain the asylum and his sanity. Unfortunately for such a great series the ending is EXTREMELY confusing and kind of a cop out.

2. The Walking Dead (Image)- Still going strong, though i still miss the artwork of Tony Moore. The struggles of the ever changing cast of ragged wanderers continues on through the zombie wasteland in search of civilization and any possible hope of safety. This year pitted Rick and company against more living than undead threats as the state of the world continues to erode. (more…)
