CONDITIONS have sold over 16,000 digital songs and over 3,000 CDs on their own as independent artists. They have shared stages in the US and Europe with the likes of Paramore, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and Good Charlotte. They have earned themselves spots on the Vans Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos, Bamboozle Festival, and SXSW Music Conference. Their commanding stage presence and airtight musicianship during live performances emits a vibrant and impassioned spirit. It is this rare mix of charisma and chops that has allowed CONDITIONS to amass a loyal and supportive fan base from swooning teen pop fans to discerning older rock fans. Those fans purchased 4,000 songs off of their You Are Forgotten EP in the first month of its release. It is exactly that type of zealous fan reaction that has caught the eye of media outlets nationwide. Alternative Press Magazine recently proclaimed the band as one of their “100 bands you need to know in 2010″.

I had the pleasure of meeting with two of the coolest most laid back guys in metal, Blake Bunzel and Jeff Fabb of In this Moment. In this moment is a self made band who through social networking and tireless touring have garnered themselves a large ever growing following. Now with the release of their newest album  A Star crossed Wasteland and the single The Gun Show, they seem to be taking over the Satellite airwaves with constant rotation on SiriusXM Octane and Liquid Metal.

The thing that caught me slightly off guard is how much fun every member of the band looked like they were having on stage, and how down to earth and humble they were in person. After talking with Jeff and Blake I would dare anyone not to become a fan. They are obviously just doing what they love and riding the wave to wherever it takes them. I mentioned the fact that they seem to be gaining momentum in the metal scene and they actually seemed surprised and flattered.  Whether they seem to believe it or not, you will be  sure to see numerous imitators in the coming years. So Slash (formerly of Guns N’ Roses) released his first solo album, each song screamed out by front men/women from all aspects of music. Guest singers include, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Adam Levine, Kid Rock and more.  Now one might think that this article would be a straight edge review of the album, but it’s not. Overall the album is typical Slash and nothing too original; however for me the album had one major revelation. Fergie needs to switch to metal. That’s right you heard me, the standout song in my opinion is Beautiful Dangerous featuring the ugliest hot chick ever born, Fergie.

As a rule I’ve never been a huge fan of Fergie’s solo career and most of her songs irritate me to no end, but not here. The song itself isn’t great, but Fergie’s vocals really make me curious to hear her rendition of Welcome to the Jungle ….and I think she might be able to pull it off. Her signature smoky voice stretched to a scratchy growl fits so incredibly well with the hard rock aesthetic that I have to demand that she finds her way out of the shit lined walls of the hip-hop pop labyrinth and front a rock group. It’s not often that I hand out the SkullBunnie Seal of approval for an entire album, but today that honor goes to the self titled album from Angel Witch. Formed in 1977 Angel Witch was a band out of London whose lineup’s continual habit of self destruction kept them from ever reaching mainstream success. Their debut album Angel Witch was released in 1980 and went relatively unnoticed, as better known artists like Ozzy Osborne, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath ruled the metal airwaves.

Recently I’ve felt the need to rewind my taste in metal as most new metal seems to be some derivative of Lamb of God or Slipknot. Don’t get me wrong I love both of them, but sometimes I want music that will make me feel like doing something other than tearing peoples arms off and beating them to death with them.  This album reminded me what it was like to feel the need for air guitar, and bang my head without separating my skull from my spinal cord. Metal:It’s a Religion?

Thank God for Britain! In 2007 Jedi was officially allowed as a religion on the census, and now there is a movement to allow Heavy Metal to be listed as well. Most religions are an institution recognized by millions of devoted followers around the world, who follow the word of one or many deities. Passed down from God through man into literary works of art, the story of religion is told(Bible, Torah, Quaran, Kabala, Vedas, Tao Te Ching, Battlefield Earth[kidding]) .

Most of these books are written in verse, or some form of poetry and many passages have been put to music and associated with dances. These books of  verse are an outline on how to live your life well, and are also filled with gods demons battles and saviors. They are accepted by large groups of  people and passed down through their progeny with fearful devotion. (more…)

Hot Metal Chicks Abound!

First off I have to say this game makes me very angry. Angry because Brütal Legend is not a full fledged animated movie…. although it’s not far from it. I want nothing more than to throw it in the DVD player and allow my friends to experience the Glory of Metal. With amazing voice acting, great character design and movie quality animation, coupled with very funny dialogue and a tongue in cheek story, this game is almost more fun to watch  than it is  to play. But what else would you expect of a game from Tim Schafer?

Schafer is best known as the designer of critically acclaimed games Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts,  and co-designer of the early classics The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2. He is known in the video game industry for his story-telling and comedy-writing abilities. (more…)
