Dead Island: Worth the Vacation

With all the hype leading up to the release of Dead Island, One would assume that it would be a game changer in the genre. Unfortunately it is not; However….It is a REALLY fun attempt. Basically take the play control and Melee style combat from BIOSHOCK (As well as the beautifully rendered environments)  mix in the RPG aspects of BORDERLANDS and the mission variety of Dead Rising and you get Dead Island. It seems that the creators took handfuls of great features from other successful franchises and crammed them into a chimera of awesomeness. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not the greatest game ever created but it is the most fun you can have smashing in zombie’s heads since Dead Rising. Plus the Multi-Player function is INCREDIBLY well done so you can roam the island with 3 of your friends.

Similar to Borderlands  you can choose between 4 survivors each with their own strengths and weaknesses. From here your character wakes up in the Island Hotel where all hell has broken loose. Zombies roam the island in Overall I give Dead Island 4 out of 5 stamps  and recommend you go pick it up.various forms (they didn’t stray too far from the enemy formula here.): The Walker (slow-moving) The Infected (fast 28 days later zombie), the Suicider (blows up near you) the Floater (Fat dude who pukes on you) the Thug (big muscly dude), and the RAM (some big thing similar to the Nemesis that is for some reason in an S&M straight jacket). It’s now an open world for you to explore and wreak havoc in while simultaneously running errands for survivors and attempting to find a way off the island. (more…)

This New Years Eve, The Silent Hill HD collection will be released for XBox 360 and Playstation 3. In addition to upgrading the graphics to HD,  all the voice acting has also been updated due to royalty demands from the original voice actors.

It Seems that there is a rebellion forming from some die-hard fans who feel that the new voices are terrible. Personally I think they sound just fine, but leave it to Fanboys of any genre to overreact. I can ignore the fact that the voices are slightly different, but I can’t ignore the fact that the Silent Hill HD collection doesn’t include SILENT HILL!!!! WTF Konami? You get the Excellent Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams & the Mediocre Silent Hill 3. Being that SH3 is a direct sequel to the original wouldn’t it have made more sense to package those 2 together? And why bother if you’re not including the original beloved game that started the series?

Anyhoo, I have included a pretty damn funny video after the jump of someone improving the new voice overs…enjoy!! (more…)

“I got my Black Armor on,
I got my Black Gloves on,
I Got my Ski Mask on,
This shits been on too long,
I got my twelve gauge sawed off,
I got my Headlights Turned off,
I’m bout to bust some shots off,
I’m bout to dust some Locust Off,
I’m a GRUB KILLLLLER,
Better you than Me!
GRUB KILLER!
Fuck Locust Brutality!
GRUB KILLLLLLLLLER,
I know your queen’s grievin’
GRUB KILLLLLLLER,
but tonight we get even!”

That’s right gearheads! Today is E Day; Gears of War 3 officially emerges today! Remember to keep an ear open for ICE-T who voices a soldier named Griffin.

It looks like its time to get all Compton on the Locust. In fact it could spawn a whole new series of gears games, where we see how well the Locust fair on E-day when they push up through the middle of the street in South Central. (more…)

Earlier this week I regaled you with how great Call of Duty Black Ops for the Wii is, but complained that without a properly laid out gun attachment it was  lacking. Well the Cabela’s Wii Top Shot Elite rifle attachment comes really close to completely wiping out that gripe.

The Top Shot Elite comes with Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts game which is great for those of you out there who love big buck hunter and other such games. I on the other hand have only Call of Duty on my mind.

As with the other guns the Wii-mote is tucked into the barrel of the gun. With this model the B button is not attached to a trigger but to the pump action handle underneath. The Wii Nunchuk is seated into the grip and the cord is tucked into a recessed gutter along the underside. The remaining cord is wrapped around a spool on the clip and hidden inside the gun leaving you unfettered from loose cords. The Adjustable stock is completely removable and should fit almost any shooters size. (more…)

The Last Possible Player :
Reviewing Old Games that you couldn’t afford New

While trying to figure out if my Wii is better than the paper weight it has become, I received a copy of Call of Duty Black Ops to review. I’ m a big fan of COD on the PC but have never ventured into the console world when it came to this franchise. I have however played Battlefield: Bad Company on the Xbox 360 and just didn’t like it as compared to the PC version. Black ops is a whole different story.

To start off I have to preface this with saying that your better off playing Black ops with a Wii Gun attachment and it will take a little bit to get it configured just perfectly to your tastes (so don’t launch headlong into the multiplayer). Black ops has a somewhat lackluster single player story as compared to Modern Warfare2 but  I recommend playing through a couple of levels just to get your self acclimated to the Wii controls while you adjust your settings. You’re able to adjust almost every aspect of your controls from the speed of the camera, to the dead zones at which point your view will turn, making your controls perfect for your play type. There are a number of combination controls to remember to perform all your actions (e.g. tilt gun outward and press b to reload.) so make sure you play until your comfortable with these and then movie into the multiplayer.

The Last Possible Player Review: Reviewing Old Games that you couldn’t afford New

If you’re like me, (and chances are that you are since you’re reading this) the gimmick of the Wii has worn itself out and the tiny game system has sat collecting dust on your shelf for near on 6 months. Since I am over 7 years old, Nintendo’s collection of Hokey Pokey games just hasn’t grabbed me (with exception of the amazing Silent Hill). Since it has backward compatibility with the Gamecube, I decided to get my yearly Resident Evil fix with my Ex-Gen Versions of Resident Evil (remake) Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 4.

Sadly without updating these old timers are becoming outdated and don’t have the entertainment value they once did. So in an attempt to quench my serious jonesing for post apocalyptic Zombie Destruction I impulsively purchased Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles & Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Oh yeah as well as the Nyco gun attachment for the WiiMote. These two games are on the rails shooters much like the commonly known House of the Dead series only better. The Chronicles games take scenarios from the games you love and remember and plants you smack dab in the middle of them. (more…)

The Last Possible Player Review: Reviewing Old Games that you couldn’t afford New

For about six months now I have been playing Red Dead Redemption on and off, patiently waiting for the Undead Nightmare DLC to come down in price. Stupidly when I purchased Red Dead, I didn’t realize that you didn’t need to get Red Dead Redemption to purchase and Play Undead Nightmare. Anyhoo last night I finally took the plunge and downloaded some Old West Zombie Awesomeness.

Undead Nightmare is FANTASTIC. Redemption is a great game on its own; however this DLC crowns it as Rockstar’s best in my eyes. I have never been able to get into the Grand Theft Auto series as it just seemed too real to everyday life. Don’t get me wrong I’m not running down hookers and shooting pimps, but if I wanted to I probably could. It just wasn’t enough of an escape and it bored me.

Red Dead is different though. Take the mechanics and tremendous graphics of GTA4 add new bullet time features and the old west and now were talking.  You gallop across the west and even into Mexico to hunt down outlaws with your own brand of justice.  That’s a little background on the core game however Undead Nightmare takes all that and crosses it with Dead Rising.  (more…)

A little closer to Rapture

PayPal founder Peter Thiel recently invested $1.25 million to try to make Rapture a city of reality. By offering support to the Seasteading Institute, he has jump-started efforts to create city-state communities afloat on ocean platforms. In 2009, the institute held a 3D design competition to help people visualize what these sea-bound communities may look like .

The structures will be 12,000 tons, diesel-powered and carry around 270 people per unit, as reported by Details Magazine. The idea is to link the structures together to create ocean metropolises equipped to accommodate millions of people.

Thiel hopes to place the structures beyond the coastal jurisdiction of existing countries and their laws. Call it a libertarian pipe dream if you will, but he hopes to experiment with different types of government styles. In some cases, he wishes to start up city-states without minimum wages and welfare, with fewer weapons restrictions and “looser” building codes, he says. Seasteading already has a teamworking on the legal issues involved. (more…)

Well after less than exciting reboot reports I figured it was high time for some good Evil Dead News. For those of you out there with an iPad or an iPhone, immediately go to the AppStore and purchase the Army of Darkness Tower Defense Game.

Packed with audio clips from the movie itself, you play as Ash and must defend the Necronomicon from wave upon wave of Deadites. As you level up you get use of your chainsaw, your boomstick and you gain the help of knights, Henry the Red, and King Arthur. You can also power up your peasants and archers with the SWORD BOY and the TORCH BOY. Continuing on you can also add archers and catapults to the battlements as well as “the Pit” which allows you to toss Deadites into the deadly…..well…Pit. You will need all of these as Skeletons, Sheila, and Evil Ash ascend toward the Book of the Dead. (more…)
